What does your exhibition mean to you?
This is what I want my family to see and the next generation of my family to see. I want my lineage and Kianna’s and my brother’s to see that we have the power of creating our own vision and that to me is antiquated.

Can you expand on your piece ‘Waiting on a Transmission’?
Waiting on a Transmission is based on the notion of longing for a signal from somewhere distant or unreachable. Sometimes all you can do is sit around and wait, so you’ll do it from the highest point you can reach.
Like the majority of the pieces in ‘Hijo de la Chicharra’, this piece was created using cardboard cutouts, inking them, and applying them onto a surface in the same way you would with any other relief-printing process. Beaz creates with sustainability and practicality in mind. His minimalistic approach to art making translates his honest, simple, and demonstrative view of the human experience.

About the Artists
The Re-Use Project is a collaborative group experience consisting of all CSUSM Art Students. In efforts to bring attention to the global environmental crisis through creating artwork using all pre existing materials such as plastic, aluminum and cardboard. After completing the exhibition in The HSCC, Head curator, Dinah Poellnitz saw potential to coordinate an on going organization which has now been running for over a year under the supervision of the gallery.

What does this experience offer to your artistic career?
This opportunity allowed me to work on a larger scale than I normally do, and take a risk using unfamiliar methods.
THIS will be An Exhibition focus on Carrie Minikel’s acceptance of mortality.
What inspires your work?
I’m fascinated by how we aren’t our bodies but our bodies are ours. How they are expressions of us, tools, a medium through which we experience the world and often a large part of our identities. We are also trapped in them and increasingly limited by them as we age. As I watch my daughter grow, and my parents age, I am increasingly aware of my own mortality - it is becoming a palpable presence. This piece is about sitting with the solidity and gravity of that in a physical form, and on some level, accepting it. This truth we share in common is a great perpective-giver. It is larger than me, too big and unwieldy for me to control and somehow beautiful.
