Savor Local Stories & Support Civic Engagement!

Gentryfries is a community archiving culinary project that celebrates the rich history and vibrant cultures of Oceanside and North San Diego County supported by FSBN City of San Diego Art and Culture and Prebys Foundation.Gentryfries is created by The Hill Street Country Club in collaboration with local archives, and guest artist Alejandro Arreguin Villegas, Gentryfries transforms family stories, photographs, and documents into artistic archival records—beautifully wrapped around every serving of crispy fries.

Each fry container serves as a vessel of history, offering a delicious and meaningful way for the community to connect with their heritage while engaging in civic action. By highlighting the impact of public policy on housing and displacement, Gentryfries aims to increase awareness and foster a deeper understanding of local history.

Through this project, we create human connections between past and present neighbors, encouraging compassionate support for policies that prioritize keeping people housed and strengthening the fabric of our community. Whether you’re savoring the taste of history or sharing your own story, Gentryfries invites you to be part of a movement that nourishes both body and soul, inspiring us all to build a more connected and just community—one fry at a time.

Join us in celebrating the flavors and stories that shape our neighborhoods and advocate for a future where everyone has a place to call home.

Sound + Liberation by Dorian Maldonado

Sound + Liberation is a free live performance series that encourages conscious listening and intimate experiences with an intentional transfer of energy between the artist and their audience. Guests get up close and personal with performers and the ideas that drive their work as we explore music and sound as means to express, connect, and heal.
Since its origin as Soft U, an online concert series hosted by Libelula bookstore and livestreamed by Hill Street during the Covid Lock down of 2020, Sound + Liberation has expanded to include poetry workshops, and experimental performance. We’ve had the honor to host local, national, and international touring acts at our gallery, and produce events in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

The Hill Street Country Club (HSCC) and Oceanside Public Library are proud to present Mobile Art Workshop (MAW) an extension and expansion of HSCC’s Papercuts Zine Club, community art gallery and teaching artists program. MAW is funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency and the City of Oceanside Arts Commission. MAW will run parallel to the Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program (Dig Deeper, Oceanside) from June 1 through August 8 and will benefit Oceanside neighborhoods’ engagement in contemporary art practices, arts education and exhibition artists. A rotating roster of local and regional artists, Lissa Corona, Alofa Gould, Alejandro Arreguin Villegas, Rachel Fernandes and Alyssa Junious will explore contemporary, accessible and affordable art mediums. Every two weeks, MAW will provide participants with a unique project kit with materials curated by the teaching artist to explore mediums such as cyanotype photography and Zine creation. Online tutorials by the teaching artists will take participants through a step by step process. These workshops seek to demystify the art making process, give confidence to prospective artists, and encourage arts appreciation as a lifelong, necessary practice.
